Hello, internet

For a long time I wanted to have a blog about movies. This is probably for the best so I have a place where there is an outlet for all of the movie thoughts that bounce around in my head before, during, and after I watch one. My wife, Mom, Dad, brother, sister, college roommates, and anyone who follows me on social media are probably annoyed by my continuous rants and explanations and opinions.

Right away, I know this is a crap time to be a movie buff. Heck, it’s just as bad to be a fan right now. The streaming services are the only ones releasing new things frequently unless you don’t mind paying the crazy Video on Demand (VOD) prices. Movie ticket are not that expensive if you want to actually GO to a theater, but it’s still not a great idea. No disrespect to theaters for trying to keep their doors open, but the protocols they put in place for their auditoriums (decreased seating availability, social distancing, mask requirements, contactless payment) go straight out the window once the lights go down and people take their seats. The only movie I have been to since March was to see Tenet, and the second that guests were out of sight of the staff, all the masks were off and people were sitting next to each other. Pretty sure it was just me and the lady next to me (two seats away) who kept our masks on the whole time. But even though all of the big projects are getting delayed, movies are still being released. Check these highlights:

  • Mank: David Fincher’s project about the making of Citizen Kane is coming out on December 4th. Solid cast as well with Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfried, Charles Dance, and Lily Collins. A movie about Hollywood? It’s a shoo in for best picture at the Oscars. Netflix has been dropping quality content for a while, and the Academy Awards just gave Best Picture to Parasite. A very progressive move means they academy gets to pat itself on the back, so I’m calling it now, Mank wins best picture whenever the 2021 Oscars happen.

  • Wonder Woman 1984: the blockbuster that keeps getting pushed back. June. Then August. Then October. Now Christmas. The sequel to the best Justice League movie since The Dark Knight (yes, nerds. I know The Dark Knight isn’t in the DCEU). Only I do want another Wonder Woman movie (unlike the new Batman movie coming out in a year or two). Gal Gadot is an excellent actress. Patty Jenkins knows how to make moving and exciting stories come to life. Plus Chris Pine/Captain Kirk is a nice added commodity.

  • Soul: another Pixar movie means another big draw if it can actually come out in a theater. It doesn’t seem like that will happen though. It’s supposed to come out on Disney + on Christmas. Release details aside, I’m always down for another Pixar movie about diving what makes a person unique (i.e. Inside Out, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles). It’ll be good. Jaime Foxx will add a lot to it.

So yeah. This is a weird time to be making a blog, even though stuff is coming out, everything is delayed. Everything will continue to be delayed for the near future. And I am alright with that because it’s the right thing to do for now.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t movies I haven’t seen before to watch. Believe it or not I have never seen any of the Alien movies, Apocalypse Now, or most of everything Steven Spielberg ever made. So I’ve got a lot of catching up to during this time, and I’m gonna catch up. Also, there’s nothing wrong with getting off work and watching Hoodwinked! for the 12,000,000,000th time. Trust me it gets better every time. Also you should expect a lot of Hoodwinked! thoughts and commentary from me.

Hopefully, I’ll make a youtube channel too. This blog isn’t meant to a place where I investigate too deeply, but hopefully youtube can be that place.

Until I see another one.

Samburger.
